Prati Tulja Bhavani Temple Now Open in Thane! A New Spiritual Landmark Inaugurated on April 30
Thane City has welcomed a magnificent new spiritual destination – the Prati Tulja Bhavani Temple, inaugurated on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, April 30, 2025. Located in Ganeshwadi, Pachpakhadi, the temple is an architectural marvel inspired by Hemadpanthi style and envisioned by NCP Leader Jitendra Awhad.
The temple’s idol of Goddess Tulja Bhavani, revered as the Kuldaivat (family deity) of Maharashtra, was consecrated by NCP President Sharad Pawar and his wife Pratibha Pawar during a grand Pranpratishtha ceremony held on Tuesday morning at 9:55 AM.
A Temple Inspired by Ancient Heritage
Unlike the temples of Tamil Nadu, this newly built marvel features:
-
26 intricately carved stone pillars
-
A 30-feet tall Shikhara (temple spire)
-
A beautifully designed stone Deepstambha (lamp tower) with 108 lamps
-
Surrounding 20 Gajmukh (elephant-faced water outlets)
-
A Navagraha setup in front of the Shikhara
-
A sacred Havankund (fire altar) in the sanctum
The structure used over 1350 tons of Krishnashila (black stone), sourced from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, carved meticulously by expert artisans led by Manjunath Devadiga, under the architectural guidance of Sanjay Bobadev. The temple showcases masterful craftsmanship that rivals ancient temples of the Deccan.
The Revival of Devotion
The original Tulja Bhavani temple stood at this site for over 21 years. However, with growing urbanization, the old temple was obstructing traffic. Recognizing this, Jitendra Awhad spearheaded the reconstruction project, ensuring the new temple not only honors the original spiritually but also elevates it architecturally.

Construction began four years ago beside the original site, culminating in this awe-inspiring structure with all civic approvals completed through Thane Municipal Corporation.
A 4-Day Celebration of Faith
The inauguration is not just a one-day event. Celebrations include:
-
April 27: A grand Nagar Pradakshina (procession) of the goddess through the city.
-
April 28–29: Traditional rituals and Vedic ceremonies.
-
April 30: Final Pranpratishtha Ceremony on Akshaya Tritiya.
According to Jitendra Awhad, the temple will now be open to all devotees, becoming a new centre of devotion and cultural pride in Thane.
