Thane Traffic Alert: Ghodbunder Road to Face Congestion as Gaimukh Repairs Begin from April 26

Pod Cars to Connect Mira-Bhayandar with Thane-Ghodbunder After BKC

Thanekars, gear up for delays! Starting April 26, the Public Works Department (PWD) has initiated repair work on the Gaimukh Ghat road, a major route connecting Thane to Ghodbunder Road. This essential repair will lead to partial lane closures until April 29, affecting thousands of daily commuters.

📍 Why the Gaimukh Road Repairs Matter

The Gaimukh Ghat section is a crucial link for traffic flowing between Thane city and the Ghodbunder area. With one lane shut, bottlenecks are inevitable, especially during peak hours. The situation is worsened by ongoing Mumbai Metro construction, rising traffic volumes, and rapid urban development in the Ghodbunder region.

🚗 Alternate Routes for Ghodbunder Commuters

To manage the increased traffic load, the PWD and Thane traffic authorities have introduced diversions. Here’s what you need to know:

  • From Thane to Ghodbunder: Use Kharegaon ➝ Mankoli ➝ Anjurphata as an alternate route.

  • From Mumbra or Kalwa: Entry to Ghodbunder via Kharegaon Toll Plaza is not allowed. Take the Mankoli–Anjurphata route instead.

  • Heavy Vehicles from Gujarat, Rajasthan, or MP: Avoid Chinchoti Naka. Take the route via Kaman ➝ Anjurphata ➝ Mankoli ➝ Bhiwandi.

The Y Junction has also been restricted for large vehicles heading toward Ghodbunder Road from Thane.

🏙️ Why Is Ghodbunder Road So Congested?

The Ghodbunder stretch is one of the busiest roads in Thane. It connects multiple national highways and sees heavy movement of trucks, private vehicles, and daily commuters. Add to this the construction of the Metro Line 4 and the roadwork at Gaimukh, and congestion is bound to get worse.

Moreover, with several new housing and commercial projects in Ghodbunder, Gaimukh, and Kasarvadavali, traffic volume has steadily increased over the years.

⛈️ Monsoon Preparation & Safety Measures

This road repair is also a pre-monsoon safety measure. The Gaimukh Ghat area is known for waterlogging and landslides during heavy rains. The repairs aim to strengthen the stretch and improve long-term safety for all commuters.
