The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a 10% reduction in water supply across Mumbai, its suburbs, and the municipalities of Thane and Bhiwandi from December 1 to December 5. The cut is attributed to a technical problem at the BMC’s water supply facility in Pise village.
Urgent repair work is underway to address the issue, but officials have indicated the disruption may persist for several days. Residents have been advised to use water judiciously during this period.
The fault was identified in the pneumatic gate system at the Pise facility, which plays a crucial role in supplying water to areas under the BMC’s jurisdiction.
This announcement follows a separate incident two days ago when several parts of Mumbai experienced water shortages due to emergency repair work on the Tansa water channel in Lower Parel.
On Saturday, former Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the state’s broader water challenges, revealing a 50% shortage. He emphasized the need for water conservation as the primary solution to this growing issue.
Residents are urged to stay informed and plan their water usage accordingly to minimize inconvenience during the repair period.
