Water Supply in Parts of Thane to Be Affected on May 8 and 9: TMC Issues Notice

Thane Water Supply Disruption: Key Details and Affected Areas

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has issued a public notice informing residents about a 24-hour water cut in several areas of Thane district on May 8 and 9, 2025. The disruption is due to essential maintenance and repair work at the Jambhul Water Purification Plant, managed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).

Why the Water Cut?

According to TMC, the water shutdown will begin at midnight on Thursday, May 8, and continue until midnight on Friday, May 9. The work involves critical repair and maintenance of the main water supply pipeline from Katai Naka to Thane.

Affected Areas in Thane

Water supply will be completely cut off in the following areas:

  • Diva and Mumbra (excluding some parts of Ward 26 and Ward 31)

  • Parts of Wagle Ward: Rupadevi Pada, Kisannagar No. 2, and Nehrunagar

  • Kolse Khalsa Gaon under Manpada Ward

Following the shutdown, water pressure may remain low for 1–2 days, and residents are urged to plan accordingly.

TMC’s Appeal to Residents

In its advisory, the TMC has urged all citizens to use water judiciously and store an adequate supply in advance. “We request residents to cooperate during this period and avoid any water wastage,” the statement read.

No Water Cuts for Mumbai (For Now)

In contrast to Thane’s situation, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced no immediate water cuts for Mumbai, even though only 22.66% of water stock remains in its reservoirs.

The decision came after a high-level review meeting led by Mumbai civic chief Bhushan Gagrani, with other officials from the hydraulic department. According to BMC, future decisions will depend on rainfall forecasts and further inputs from the meteorological department.

Current Water Stock Levels

The seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai currently hold 3.28 lakh million litres, which is 22.66% of total capacity. To manage the summer demand, the state government has allocated additional stock from Upper Vaitarna and Bhatsa Dam.

✅ Key Takeaways for Thane Residents:

  • Water cut from May 8 (midnight) to May 9 (midnight)

  • Store water in advance and use sparingly
