Thane Municipal Corporation Offers Free 'Shadu' Clay and Workspace for Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idols

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced a new initiative to promote eco-friendly Ganesh idol-making by providing sculptors with free ‘Shadu’ clay and dedicated workspace. This effort aims to encourage the use of sustainable materials in the creation of Ganesh idols.

According to TMC officials, sculptors interested in availing themselves of this facility must register with the civic body within 15 days. Upon successful registration, TMC will arrange for the necessary materials and allocate space for the sculptors. This initiative was introduced following a recent meeting with local artisans to promote environmentally responsible festivities.

TMC has reiterated its commitment to adhering to environmental regulations set by the Bombay High Court and pollution control authorities. By promoting Shadu clay, a biodegradable alternative to Plaster of Paris, the civic body seeks to minimize pollution and ensure a greener celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi.

A representative from TMC’s Pollution Control Department encouraged sculptors to register their requirements at the earliest. Once registered, TMC will ensure the timely provision of Shadu clay and workspace, making it easier for artisans to create eco-friendly Ganesh idols.
