Thane district police have apprehended eight Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, for allegedly residing in India without valid documentation. The arrests were made following raids conducted over the weekend in Kalher and Kongaon areas of Bhiwandi town, officials reported on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off and a formal complaint, the police carried out operations on Saturday and Sunday. The detainees, aged between 22 and 42, failed to provide legitimate documents to justify their stay in the country.
According to the authorities, three of the individuals were employed as scrap sellers, two worked as laborers, one as a mason, and another as a plumber.
All eight have been booked under the Foreigners Act and the Indian Passport Act for illegal entry and stay in India, police confirmed. Investigations are ongoing.
