Thane Water Supply Disruption: Key Details and Affected Areas

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced a 24-hour water cut in several parts of the city starting from noon on Thursday, August 21, until noon on Friday, August 22.

The shutdown is necessary to carry out essential maintenance and repair work at the Jambhul Water Purification Centre, which supplies water to multiple areas in Thane.

Areas Affected by the Water Cut

The following regions will experience a complete water supply disruption:

  • Parts of Mumbra (zones 26 and 31)

  • All areas under the Kalla Water Supply Committee

  • Rupadei Pada

  • Gakshinir No. 2

  • Nehrunagar

  • Manpada Prasadgamit

  • Kolshet Khalcha Vad

Residents are also advised that once the supply resumes, low water pressure may continue for 1–2 days. The TMC has urged citizens to store water in advance, use it carefully, and cooperate with the authorities during this maintenance period.

Heavy Rainfall Brings Flooding Across Thane and Nearby Cities

Meanwhile, Thane and neighboring areas have been battered by two consecutive days of relentless rainfall, causing severe waterlogging and flooding in many parts of Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Dombivli, and Ulhasnagar.

Daily life has been disrupted with major traffic jams and rivers swelling dangerously close to danger levels.

Kamwari River Nears Danger Mark

The Kamwari River is nearing the danger mark, with floodwaters already entering low-lying homes near Nadi Naka.

In Bhiwandi, several areas have been heavily submerged, including:

  • Teen Batti vegetable market

  • Anjurphata–Kasheli Road near Holy Mary School

  • Nadi Naka Road

  • Mithpada Road

  • Gafur Basti

  • Kalyan Road

Relief Efforts Underway

According to Shrikant Pardeshi, PRO of the Bhiwandi City Nizampura Municipal Corporation (BNCMC), residents from flood-prone areas such as Handi Compound, Sangampada, MHADA Colony, Azmi Nagar, and Kakubai Chawl have been advised to shift to a nearby municipal school if water levels continue to rise.

The civic body has also arranged 3,000 meal kits for the affected residents as part of their relief measures.

Tip for Residents: Store enough water before the scheduled cut, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, and follow updates from civic authorities for safety instructions.
